Apple Bars

Servings: Ingredients:
2 cups sugar
1 1/2 cups oil
2 tsp. vanilla
3 well-beaten eggs
1 tsp. lemon juice
1 tsp. salt
3 cups flour
1 1/4 tsp. soda
1 tsp. cloves
1 tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. nutmeg
1 tsp. allspice
4 cups chopped apples
1 1/2 cups chopped nuts

Caramel Icing
2 cups light brown sugar
2 Tbs. flour
6 Tbs. cream or milk
4 Tbs. butter
2 tsp. vanilla
1/2 tsp. maple flavoring

Directions:
    Bars
  • Preheat oven to 325 degrees. Grease a jelly roll pan.
  • Combine sugar, oil, vanilla, lemon juice, and beaten eggs.
  • Mix all dry ingredients.
  • Mix all the above ingredients.
  • Fold in apples and nuts.
  • Bake in a jelly roll pan for 1 hour 15 min. (test for doneness)
  • Spread with icing while warm, cut into bars.

    Icing

  • Mix sugar, flour, cream, and butter.
  • Boil 2 minutes.
  • Take off stove, beat and add flavorings.
  • Spread over warm cake.
